Your Most Important Decision By Rev. Richard Pomeroy |
|
The most important decision you will ever make in life is whether or not to trust the Lord. It determines your final destination, Heaven or Hell, and it also determines how you live your life. People have told me on many occasions that there is nothing I could say that would prove to them that God exists. That is so true. But faith is not based upon proof. Faith is where you believe anyway, despite the lack of proof. "Seeing is believing" is not faith. You don't have faith if you only believe in what you see. Sometimes believing is hoping against hope, betraying logic or reason to embrace a truth that defies the senses. In the case of faith, believing is a way of seeing. "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Without that kind of faith we have no hope of Salvation. The writer of Hebrews tells us that the one who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Billy Graham had great insight over the years in stressing decision. Anyone who wants to come to God has to start by making the decision to believe. But believing that God exists is not enough. The devils believe and tremble. Knowing that God will sit on His great white throne and judge the world, that there is a Heaven to gain and a Hell to shun, maybe we have something to tremble about, too. Saving faith has more content than just believing God exists. What do we need to believe about God in order to be saved?
That's not complicated at all, is it? There are sixty-six books in the Bible: thirty-nine in the Old Testament, twenty-seven in the New. There are Ten Commandments. There are seven deadly sins. But there are only two things you need to believe about God in order to be saved. "That if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God hath raised him from the dead, you will be saved". Romans 10:9. Receiving Salvation is not difficult. It starts by making that decision to believe. In believing that Jesus Christ is Lord you are also making Him your Lord. Faith is not blind. As I already wrote above, faith is a way of seeing what you cannot see without faith. When you receive Salvation you are receiving a package that is so full of wonders that it defies imagination. When Jesus becomes your Lord, He comes into you and lives in you with His Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit brings lots of gifts with Him. Conversion is an experience. It is the beginning of a living relationship with Jesus Christ. You are an individual, and your experience won't be the same as everyone else's. I've known people who were filled with excitement when Jesus came into their heart and just had to tell everyone they saw. But I've known a lot, too, who had a quiet conversion. I heard somebody say that when he got saved, he felt like he had a shower on the inside. I've known other folks who didn't feel anything, but after a period of time went by, they looked back at their life since conversion and were amazed because they saw how much their life had changed. The fact is that God really does exist. He makes Himself known to us in the Person of Jesus Christ. When you accept Jesus as your Savior, your life is going to be touched by the hand of God. God has a hands-on relationship with His people. Don't be too surprised if God finds a way to make Himself real to you. If you want to receive Jesus as your Savior right now, let me suggest a little prayer for you to say:
